As a citizen, you have more power than you realize. According to the Congressional Management Foundation’s report “Communicating with Congress: Perceptions of Citizen Advocacy on Capitol Hill”
- 97% of (congressional) staff said constituent visits to the DC office had some or a lot of influence on an undecided member;
- 94% of staff said constituent visits to their home district had some or a lot of influence on an undecided member;
- 90% said personalized letters/emails can influence a legislator;
- 86% said phone calls influence a legislator;
- 80% of staffers said letters to the editor can influence a legislator; and
The “right” contact often makes the most impact.
