For many older adults in our communities, reliable transportation and high food prices are both major barriers to accessing food. Randy, 65, maneuvers through both challenges to meet his needs – rain, shine or snow.
An Air Force veteran, Randy has lived off his fixed social security disability income since losing a leg to a blood clot.
Randy is unable to afford a car and uses his motorized wheelchair to move around his community. It brings him some independence, but he still faces several limitations. When grocery shopping, he can only shop at locations near his home, and his fixed income doesn’t buy as much as he needs for the month.
“Things are expensive,” he says. “It’s easy to spend $120 and not have much to show for it.”
Nutritious meals are a must for Randy, who has Type 2 diabetes. Your generous support of the Great Plains Food Bank means that Randy is provided with fresh produce like oranges, carrots and zucchini, as well as many shelf-stable and protein items, at the Great Plains Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry in Pembina where he lives. He connects a small trailer to his wheelchair and volunteers load it up with food.
Randy is so grateful for your support. With friends like you, he can take care of his health with nutritious, accessible food.
Thank you for your partnership, which is impacting the lives of so many!
The Great Plains Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry is a lifeline for Randy, 65, who has limited transportation.
“Things are expensive.”
