We met young Stella and her grandparents, Ruby and Kent, at the Dream Center in Bismarck, a meal site and food pantry supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank. Stella lives in a multi-generational household of six, including her grandparents, mom, uncle and sister.
Stella is a ray of sunshine and was so excited to enjoy an evening out with her grandparents while her mom was at work.
Ruby and Kent shared that their household budget is tight due to sustained high costs of living. Even though the four adults in the household all have full or part-time jobs, they just don’t have enough to cover every household expense. Many months they are forced to choose between paying their utility bill or phone bill. Oftentimes, they run out of milk, bread and fruit.
“It’s…interesting,” Ruby explains. “Most days, I wonder [how to afford food].”
Thankfully, Stella and her family can visit a local meal site and food pantry supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank for a nutritious dinner and a box of food to bring home. Spaghetti with meatballs and a fresh salad is often one meal Ruby likes to make.
Their weekly visits truly make a difference! Stella is always excited for the fresh produce they receive, especially her favorite, broccoli.
Thank you for helping to make this possible!
Kent, Ruby and Stella are so grateful for Great Plains Food Bank partners like you.
