Great Plains Food Bank Veterans Program
The brave Americans who wear our country’s uniform make sacrifices every day — yet thousands of veterans and active-duty service members struggle to keep nutritious food on their table.
A recent study conducted by the Great Plains Food Bank indicates that 68 percent of military veterans reported having to choose between buying food and paying for another bill such as heat, healthcare and transportation. Seeing an unmet need, we focused efforts to end hunger today for our veterans and military neighbors facing hunger.
After learning that reliable transportation is a key barrier to veterans accessing food assistance, the Great Plains Food Bank began working closely with a local office of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to find an innovative solution and began piloting a veteran food box initiative earlier this year.
In addition, to the mailed food boxes, veterans living throughout North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota feel the generosity of your gifts when they receive nutritious food from the Great Plains Food Bank’s mobile food pantry, senior food pack program, SNAP outreach and application assistance, and from our partner network of food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens operating 100 communities.
Thank you for joining the Great Plains Food Bank to help ensure that every neighbor has access to nutritious food this holiday season and all year long.
