Never one to leave a family member without a caring hand, Melissa has opened her home to her grandchildren — a 13-year-old granddaughter, a 5-year-old grandson, and a 2- year-old granddaughter. “It’s family, it’s what I do,” she said.
Melissa’s car was stolen about a year ago. Without the funds to replace it, Melissa depends on her own two feet or the bus system to navigate her community.
“If I can’t get it nearby, I can’t get it,” she explains.
Buying enough food for her growing grandchildren has been a challenge for Melissa. She shared that about a third of her household’s food comes from SNAP benefits, she pays cash for a third and another third comes from the Arbors Food Pantry supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank.
That’s why Melissa is so grateful for friends like you who help ensure the food pantry is stocked with the nutritious food her grandchildren need to thrive.
Thanks to your generosity, Melissa can use the staples she receives at the food pantry like milk, bread and butter to create lasting and balanced meals for her family.
“God bless your heart,” Melissa says to supporters like you who help ensure she can access healthy food so close to home. “Thank you.”
