Campaign has now provided more than 2.2 million meals since 2011
FARGO N.D. – Loyal Hornbacher’s customers have once again given to the fight to end hunger in a big way with a $152,668 donation to benefit the Great Plains Food Bank along with 16 of its partner food pantries through Hornbacher’s annual Feed Hope campaign. The campaign, which ran during the month of December, asked Hornbacher’s customers to make donations of $1, $3 or $5 at the checkout lines at their eight locations in Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead. The donation amount is enough to provide more than 458,000 meals for those in need.
Since the campaign began in 2011, Hornbacher’s customers have raised $746,163 through Feed Hope, which is enough to provide more than 2.2 million meals.
“Our community always comes together in times of need and adversity, and the Feed Hope campaign is one way they have made a difference,” said Hornbacher’s President Matt Leiseth. “Our most sincere thanks go out to all our customers who donated to help make this event one of our most successful ever!”
New this year, 25 percent of the funds raised from Feed Hope will benefit Great Plains Food Bank partner food pantries located in Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo. Known as the Hornbacher’s Food Scholarship, this new program will make an even greater impact across the communities throughout Hornbacher’s footprint. The remaining 75 percent of this year’s donation will benefit the Great Plains Food Bank’s perishable food recovery and distribution efforts.
“Hornbacher’s and their amazing customers continue to be a leader in the Fargo-Moorhead community in fighting food insecurity,” Great Plains Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Melissa Sobolik said. “This gift will make a tremendous impact both for our work and the work of our great partners in the area. We cannot thank them along with their great customers enough for all they do.”
When combined with donations from the Check Out Hunger campaign, which is a similar campaign run by Hornbacher’s during the summer months, Hornbacher’s has now raised more than $1.55 million for hunger-relief since 1994. That is enough to provide more than 4.6 million meals to help feed those in need. Additionally, Hornbacher’s eight area stores donated more than 1.4 million pounds of food to the Great Plains Food Bank in 2021.
