Hornbacher’s Check Out Hunger campaign raises nearly $80,000 to benefit the Great Plains Food Bank

FARGO, N.D. – Hornbacher’s and their loyal base of customers have made a tremendous impact in the fight to end hunger by coming together to make a $79,954.56 donation to the Great Plains Food Bank. The gift is a part of Hornbacher’s annual Check Out Hunger campaign and will immediately help feed hungry children, seniors and families across North Dakota and Clay County, Minn.

Check Out Hunger ran from July 6-26 this year at Hornbacher’s eight locations across Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo where customers were asked in the checkout lines to make donations of $1, $3 or $5. Check Out Hunger officially kicked off in 1994 and has now raised $826,117 to benefit the Great Plains Food Bank.

“We all have a stake in our community,” said Hornbacher’s President Matt Leiseth. “Our customers care about their neighbors, and they are proving once again that the people of the Fargo-Moorhead area will take care of each other and reach out to support one another. Hornbacher’s is proud to partner with the Great Plains Food Bank and help support the great work they do for our community every day.”

“The commitment from Hornbacher’s and their loyal customers in the fight to end hunger gets stronger every year,” Great Plains Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Melissa Sobolik said. “This gift from Check Out Hunger comes at a crucial time for us and will go a long way to feeding our neighbors in need. About the Great Plains Food Bank
Opening in March of 1983, the Great Plains Food Bank is currently celebrating its 40th year as an organization. Serving as North Dakota’s only food bank, the Great Plains Food Bank partners with nearly 200 food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and other charitable feeding programs operating in 100 communities across N.D. and Clay County, Minn. Through its array of innovative direct service programs and partner network, the Great Plains Food Bank has distributed more than 200 million meals to children, seniors, and families in need since 1983. The Great Plains Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network, and was named the Not-for-Profit of the Year in 2018 by the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo Chamber of Commerce.

We are grateful for your donation and support of our organization. If you have made an error in making your donation or change your mind about contributing to our organization please contact us. Refunds are returned using the original method of payment. If you made your donation by credit card, your refund will be credited to that same credit card.
