Donation to help support food assistance across North Dakota and Clay County, Minn.
FARGO, N.D. – The Great Plains Food Bank announced today it has received an $8,000 grant from Bayer Fund, the philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will immediately help provide needed food assistance to hungry children, seniors and families across North Dakota and Clay County, Minn.
Specifically, the grant will bolster the Great Plains Food Bank’s efforts to better recover food that otherwise would go to waste and get it into the hands of those in need.
“This grant came in at a critical time for us as we are facing our most challenging situation since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Melissa Sobolik, Great Plains Food Bank Chief Executive Officer. “With food donations dwindling, we are forecasting the need to purchase more food than ever in our history. I can’t thank Bayer Fund enough for their continued support in the fight to end hunger.”
“Throughout the years, the grants given through Bayer Fund have helped strengthen our communities across the United States,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “We’re proud to be able to provide support to develop organizations like the Great Plains Food Bank that helps combat the critical issue of food insecurity and ultimately helping ensure even more Americans/the community have access to healthy, nutritious food.”
Bayer Fund has now donated nearly $70,000 to the Great Plains Food Bank since 2015.
In 2021, Bayer Fund awarded more than $13.1 million to over 3,400 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in Food and Nutrition, STEM Education and Health & Wellness. Over the last five years, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than $75 million.
