GREAT PLAINS FOOD BANK MORE THAN DOUBLES YOUTH SUMMER MEALS LOCATIONS IN 2021

A total of 18 locations across the state will soon begin serving meals to children in need
FARGO, N.D. – The Great Plains Food Bank officially announced 18 locations of its Youth Summer Meals Program for 2021 that will soon be serving meals to children in need throughout the state of North Dakota. The 18 locations more than doubles the seven locations that were operated last year.

The Youth Summer Meals Program helps to provide meals for children during the summer months when school lunch and breakfast programs aren’t available. The program will return to locations in Jamestown, Enderlin, West Fargo, Fargo and Bismarck and will have new locations this year in Grenora, Trenton, Casselton, Mapleton and Chaffee.

“This is the largest number of Youth Summer Meals Program sites we have had yet and we couldn’t be more excited about that,” Great Plains Food Bank Program Director Nancy Carriveau said. “Children make up 36 percent of those we serve each year, which is more than 50,000 kids. Fighting childhood hunger will always remain a top priority for us and we are thrilled to be able to offer this program at sites throughout the state so there will be food available when kids don’t have a school lunch to rely on.”

All locations will begin serving meals May 31 or early June. One year ago, the Youth Summer Meals Program provided 8,941 meals at seven locations for children in need.
