Food Bank Volunteer
The Great Plains Food Bank regularly needs volunteers to help process approximately 20% of the food we distribute to our 241 partner agencies each year. Last year, more than 5,300 volunteers donated over 19,000 hours to the Great Plains Food Bank. Our volunteers sort, label and repack donated and bulk products and assemble boxes and bags for special programs.
We believe that when a child is fed, they are equipped to learn, grow and imagine a future filled with opportunity. Our backpack specialists work in a team, meeting every Wednesday for no more than two hours to prepare backpacks for departure from the Great Plains Food Bank to over twenty-one area schools. They play a pivotal role in providing meals to area children every weekend.
Food Bank Driver
We have started a driver program in which volunteers drive our new van to pick up donations at local businesses and then drop these donations off at local partner agencies. These volunteers will document each transaction and build relationships with people with whom they interact. Drivers needed Monday for 2 to 3 hours in either AM or PM.
Volunteers assist office personnel with various mailing, data entry, filing and copying projects.
Special Events Volunteers
Volunteers help with various tasks involved in conducting one of our special events.
