Mary has made a career of caregiving, which is why she is especially touched by friends like you who step up to ensure neighbors like her and her family have access to nutritious food.
Mary and her husband Allen are raising their 9-year-old grandson. To make ends meet, both continue work in labor-intensive careers. Mary is a certified nursing assistant at a nursing home, and Allen is a truck driver.
Both Mary and Allen are diabetic, and they work hard to plan their diet accordingly. Mary shared that the couple spends several hours a week planning menus based on what they get from the food pantry and what they can find on sale at the grocery store.
“Fruit is expensive, and vegetables,” she says. “If we didn’t get produce from the food shelf, we would not get it [at all].” Mary commented.
With your support, the Great Plains Food Bank works hard to bring in millions of pounds of fresh produce each year to support our neighbors like Mary and Allen.
Mary says both she and Allen have sometimes gone without purchasing critical medication just to keep up with bills and the cost of food.
That is why this family is grateful for friends like you who help ensure they have access to the nutritious foods and fresh produce they need.
Together with you, the Great Plains Food Bank is working to provide neighbors of all ages with the food needed to live healthier lives.
Thank you for your partnership!

Mary stands next to a bounty of food she accessed for her family from a food pantry supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
