GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A total of 8,629 gallons of milk will be distributed by the Great Plains Food Bank and North Country Food Bank in Crookston, Minn., thanks to donations collected at Hugo’s Family Marketplace locations in eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota from October 1 through 31 through the annual Great American Milk Drive. The milk will go to supply more than 138,000 servings to help those in need. The Great Plains Food Bank will distribute 5,638 gallons of the milk and the North Country Food Bank 2,991 gallons.
The Great Plains Food Bank, North Country Food Bank and Hugo’s joined with Feeding America for the second annual event that collected donations at Hugo’s stores in Grafton, Grand Forks and Jamestown to benefit the Great Plains Food Bank and stores in Minnesota in Crookston, East Grand Forks, Park Rapids and Thief River Falls to benefit the North Country Food Bank.
“Being able to provide our partner agencies with enough high quality protein products such as milk is always a challenge so events like the Great American Milk Drive truly fill a vital need for many of our clients,” Great Plains Food Bank CEO Steve Sellent said. “We thank Hugo’s Family Marketplace and the Great American Milk Drive for hosting this event that is making a difference in communities across our service area.”
“We are fortunate to have partnerships with our local food shelves and Dean Foods, partnerships that make something like this possible,” said Hugo’s President/CEO Kristi Magnuson Nelson. “Our customers really came together to help those in need in our communities and we are very appreciative of that.”
