Grower Surpasses 100,000 Pounds Donated

Fargo, N.D. - (November 17, 2014) – The Great Plains Food Bank, a program of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota, has many partners who support its causes and donate food, including fresh produce. Whether it’s 13 pounds of sweet corn, or 10 pounds of squash, Larry Schumaker, Fullerton, N.D., is familiar with making trips to deliver fresh produce to the Great Plains Food Bank.

Since 2010, Schumaker has donated 97,641 pounds of fresh produce after hearing about the Hunger Free ND Garden Project, a North Dakota Department of Agriculture program that connects farmers and gardeners with extra produce to agencies that can distribute the fresh food. The specific number of pounds donated is significant because Schumaker is about to top 100,000 pounds of donated produce and he may do that on his next trip to the Great Plains Food Bank, Monday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m
