Hunger No More Blog
Volume No. 1, Issue No. 1
By Jared Slinde
As I sit here writing the inaugural edition of the Hunger No More Blog, there are more than 33,000 kids in the state of North Dakota that receive food assistance from the Great Plains Food Bank. For those keeping score at home, that is #36percent of our entire client base. That is far too many.
In just over one week, we will be celebrating Giving Hearts Day 2017, which annually is the single biggest giving day of the year. Over 300 charities in the Fargo-Moorhead area participate in a phenomenal event where donations to your favorite charities can be matched during these 24 hours. Donations of $10 or more are matched up to $60,000.
Earlier this year, we launched our campaign surrounding Giving Hearts Day and are asking that everyone remember those #36percent on February 9.
The video below summarizes the critical need for food assistance for children and outlines the importance of Giving Hearts Day.
No child deserves to go hungry and at the Great Plains Food Bank we are committed to doing all we can to step up in helping the #36percent.
Our Backpack Program and Summer Feeding Program go directly to help kids qualifying for free and reduced-cost school lunches with nutritious food on the weekends and over the summer. The Backpack Program supplied 112,646 backpacks to hungry kids in 2016 alone and we are looking for bigger numbers in 2017.
At the Great Plains Food Bank, we are able to supply four meals for every charitable dollar that is donated. For 24 hours surrounding Giving Hearts Day, you have the opportunity to see a single dollar supply eight meals to help the #36percent.
We look forward to seeing you on February 9.
