Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota and Great Plains Food Bank celebrate Million Meals Drive results
Oct. 7, 2016 – Two statewide organizations teamed up to address hunger in North Dakota in a first-of-its-kind event. The Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota and the Great Plains Food Bank collected enough food, funds, and volunteer time to provide 273,496 meals for those in need through the Million Meals Drive.
The event ran from June through August at dealerships statewide. Participating dealers made financial gifts, volunteered their time and/or collected nonperishable food items as part of their commitment to the campaign.
“The Million Meals Drive with the Automobile Dealers Association of North Dakota and its member dealers is the beginning of a great partnership,” said Steve Sellent, CEO for the Great Plains Food Bank. “The campaign helped us educate our neighbors and create greater awareness and future opportunities for hunger relief in our communities statewide.”
The campaign helped many more people hear the statistics that 1 in 9 North Dakotans seek emergency food assistance from the Great Plains Food Bank and its partner network each year. This drive has already made a meaningful difference in the lives of children who are currently going to bed without dinner, seniors who must choose between medicine and groceries, and working parents who skip a meal so their children can eat.
